Blue Sky Net Facilitates Six New Broadband Projects in Northern Ontario

Between 2025-2026 Blue Sky Net facilitated six broadband projects across Northern Ontario in areas where the Universal Service Objective established by the CRTC of at least 50 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload speed was not available to all premises.

Project # 1
Spectrum Telecom Group (Netspectrum) – project now being managed by Vianet

This project was focused in 3 different regions. 2 new towers were built, and 12 existing towers were upgraded for this project. Speed tests after project completion achieved an average of 408 Mbps download and 90 Mbps upload speeds.

997 total premises were passed in this project. New road segments covered by this project are shown in the pictures below (note: coverage shown is estimated fixed wireless coverage – actual coverage may differ due to terrain/obstacles).

Region 1
The first region included premises in the communities of North Bay, Callander, Bonfield, Calvin and Nipissing- Unorganized North Part. These areas were covered with two fixed wireless towers. 55 premises were passed by this portion of the project.

Region 2
The second region included premises in the communities of West Nipissing, Markstay-Warren, St. Charles, French River, and Parry Sound- Unorganized Centre Part. 631 premises were passed by this portion of the project.

Region 3
The third region included premises in the communities of Greater Sudbury, and Sudbury Unorganized North Part. 311 premises were passed by this portion of the project.

Project #2
Celerity Telecom

This project was focused in the Rainy River District covering premises in the communities of Stratton, Sleeman, Rainy River, Pinewood, Morely, La Vallee, Emo, Lake of the Woods, Devlin, Dawson, Chapple, and Barwick.

2 new towers were built, and 12 towers were upgraded for this project. Speed tests achieved an average of 408 Mbps download and 90 Mbps upload speeds.

Project # 3
Hearst Connect

This project area was focused on the communities of Hearst, Mattice-Val Côté, and southern portions of Cochrane -Unorganized North Part and included building 5 new fixed wireless sites, modifying 7 existing fixed wireless sites and building 45.93 kilometres of last mile and backhaul fibre.

The fixed wireless portion of the project passed 441 premises and achieved average speed tests of 158 Mbps download and 45 Mbps upload.

The fibre portion of the project passed 243 premises and achieved average speed tests of 88 Mbps download and 43 Mbps upload.

Project # 4
True802

This project area was focused in the communities of West Nipissing, Markstay-Warren, St. Charles and French River and included upgrading 15 existing fixed wireless sites. 386 premises were passed by this project and achieved average speeds of 95 Mbps download and 59 Mbps upload.

Project # 5
Tbaytel

This project area was focused in the communities of Capple, Lake of the Woods and Rainy River -Unorganized and consisted of upgrades to 5 existing tower sites to improve connectivity from 3G to 4G/5G (LTE+) wireless allowing for faster broadband speeds and the added benefit of improved cellular coverage.

This project passed 305 premises and achieved average speeds of 108 Mbps download and 30 Mbps upload in post-project speed tests.

Project #6
Algonquin Fiber

This project was focused in the communities of Whitney, South Algonquin, and Madawaska and consisted of >30km of fiber passing 306 premises. Speeds achieved from this project reached up to 1 Gbps download and upload.
